ODAC Football Report Week 1

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released their Week 1 Football Report. Former Clarke County Eagle, Davey Hardesty was named ODAC Defensive Player of the week. To view the complete report at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference follow this link: ODAC Football Report Week 1

Offensive Player of the Week
 Tre Frederick| Randolph-Macon| So.| Running Back
Frederick, a sophomore from Angier, N.C., helped the Yellow Jackets post 51 points for the first time since 2011 with 223 all-purpose yards in Randolph-Macon's 51-0 triumph over Dickinson College. Frederick ran for a career-high 177 yards in his first outing as R-MC's lead running back. That effort included a 95-yard touchdown sprint to put the Yellow Jackets on top, 16-0, early in the second quarter. He finished his 19-carry day with a 9.3 per rush average. Frederick also returned a kickoff 46 yards to open the second half and lead to a touchdown. Frederick's 177 rushing yards led all ODAC backs in week one.

Defensive Player of the Week

 Davey Hardesty| Bridgewater| Sr.| Linebacker

Hardesty, a senior from Berryville, Va., helped Bridgewater to a 38-22 victory at Gettysburg College. The win featured a marked improvement by the Eagles' defense from its 49-10 loss in 2015 as BC held the Bullets scoreless until 7:28 of the fourth quarter. Hardesty backed up his defensive captaincy with six tackles that included a quarterback sack. His biggest play came early in the fourth frame when he intercepted a Gettsyburg passed and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, giving Bridgewater a 31-0 lead with 14:30 to play. The interception was one of two turnovers forced by the Eagles' defense on the day.

Q's Huddle Buzz Vol. 4 No. 5

WINCHESTER, Va. – Junior Qlyl Middelijn is in his second season of blogging out the football program. This week, Q previews the big game tomorrow night against Bridgewater.

It's Homecoming Week Hornets!! It's time for friends, families, and alumni to return to campus and enjoy all festivities and contests. We are hungry for our Saturday night contest against our rivals, the Bridgewater Eagles.

We couldn't ask for a more exciting game to play in. Both teams coming off a bye week, having two weeks to prepare for the game, all of the work has been put in now and it's time to execute. Domination of the game will be displayed thoroughly throughout the night.

Nothing will stop the Hornets from successfully winning this game, not outside distractions, definitely not the Eagles, not even the weather will stop from getting another W in our record column.

As I stated before, two weeks of practice has equipped us with the tools for victory, although I must say we've had two different type of practice weeks when referring to the weather. First week of practice was very sunny but also cool - perfect weather to play football. The second week of practice was a plethora of rain each day. It was very hard to catch the ball in the rain and remain warm as well. Also, the rain adds extra weight to the padding and clothing.

However, no excuses will be made. We will not disappoint our alumni. The alums will be very pleased with the outcome of the game. We ask that every one be dressed in all red. It's a #RedDawn type of night. GO HORNETS!!!

Q's Huddle Buzz Vol. 4 No. 3

WINCHESTER, Va. – Junior Qlyl Middelijn is in his second year of blogging about the football team. This week, Q takes us through a typical week of practice.

With our win last Saturday at Ferrum, SU football has made history. We are 2-0 for the first time in program history. However, the coaches can't stress enough that we should not take any team lightly and go into every single game with a 0-0 mindset.

So that is what we do. We look at every game like we haven't won anything yet. Last contest against Ferrum was a tough one but the Hornets found a formula for success throughout the game. Jalen Brisco really stepped up with a couple touchdowns under his belt and racked up 134 yards receiving on the day. His final touchdown secured the victory.

Last year we were known as a rushing offense under the leadership of Cedrick Delaney, but this year coach Stan Hodgin has done an exceptional job with balancing the offense out so that the Hornets can be a threat in the air and in the ground. That air-raid threat is mainly due to the strong arm of Hayden Bauserman. This kid has really been working himself and is proving that he can roll with the big dogs.

This week was taken like any given week when preparing for a tough opponent. Practice kicked off with Teaching Tuesday, where we learn about our opponent's tactics, strategies, and little specific details they show. Next we have Working Wednesday, the day that we really get after it. We've learned their film and have done all of our research now its time to show what we learned about our opponent on our toughest day of practice.

Last we have Perfect Thursday. On this day all mental mistakes should be non-existent. Our minds are focused on one thing and one thing only: doing your job. If every player on this team does their job, there is no way that we will lose.

Support your Hornets by watching the live game feed on Saturday as we travel down to N.C. Wesleyan and return home with another W in our record column. Go Hornets!!!

Delaney Named ODAC Player of the Week by SU Athletic Dept.

FOREST, Va. - Sophomore Cedrick Delaney has been named ODAC Offensive Player of the Week in selections announced Sunday afternoon by the league office.
#13 Cedrick Delaney
Delaney set new Shenandoah and ODAC records Saturday afternoon with 321 yards rushing on 41 carries in the Hornets 42-34 loss at league co-leader Emory and Henry.
The record day, which also included three rushing touchdowns and another receiving, broke a Shenandoah mark set in 2004 and an ODAC record that had stood since 1998.
Anthony Frates '06 had set the previous SU mark of 207 yards in the 2004 regular season finale against Methodist.
Delaney's 332 yards of total offense is the best effort in the league this season and ninth best in ODAC history.
In the process of setting the new rushing mark, which is believed to be one of the top five performances in Division III this season, Delaney also set a new school record for season rushing yards.
With one game left, Saturday at Washington and Lee, Delaney has 1174 yards rushing. This breaks the previous mark of 1157 set by Keone Kyle in 2009.
This is Delaney's first conference weekly honor.

Q's Huddle Buzz Vol. 3 No. 10

WINCHESTER, Va. – Sophomore Qlyl Middelijn is in his first season of blogging about the football program. This week, Q recaps the home finale and looks forward to the longest road trip of the season.
#18 Qlyl Middelijn
Our efforts were outmatched last week and our performance definitely caused us to question our confidence a bit. However, once we watched film of the game, we saw areas in which we poorly executed and worked to fix those issues during practice. We could of played a better game and we will definitely strive to accomplish this task tomorrow afternoon at Emory and Henry.
The Wasps have not lost at home this season and this gives us a great opportunity. What is sweeter than beating a team at home, especially if that team has a chance to go to the NCAA playoffs?
Our focus and intentions have not changed. We still plan on finishing the season strong, which means winning these last two games and preparing physically and mentally for next season. We leave this afternoon for this 1:00 Saturday contest and we will do our absolute best to bring home a WIN.

Q's Huddle Buzz - Vol. 3 No. 8

WINCHESTER, Va. – Sophomore Qlyl Middelijn is in his first year as the blogger for the football team. This week, Q recaps a milestone victory for the program.
I have been a member of this program for two years now, just as long as Coach Yoder has been our head coach, and we finally won two consecutive games in a row with our win Saturday at Catholic and it feels great.  Earlier in the week, as we prepared to play Catholic, coach asked us if anyone on this team has won two games in a row and everyone remained silent.
#18 Qlyl Middelijn
That silence put the utmost certainty that we will we do anything we have to do to win and that was the exact result. We came out with a 24-14 victory.
Its Homecoming week and we play No. 24 Hampden-Sydney tomorrow at 1. Why wouldn't we schedule one of the best, if not the best team, in the conference to play on homecoming? To be the best, you have to beat the best.
Hampden-Sydney is one tough opponent. As soon as the Catholic game was over our attention was immediately on the Tigers. Homecoming week can definitely cause a lot of outside distractions and that is not something we want to focus on. Our focus is striving to be the best team in the ODAC and earning that NCAA playoff berth.
It starts with us, nobody else. If every player does his part, there is no way we can lose.
We are a very good team when every player is performing his job and executing to the best of their capabilities. Come out and support your Hornets to#18
