Cousins in good frame of mind heading into new season

RICHMOND, Va.- Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins blew off any suggestions that there are any hard feeling or doubt between him and the team heading into the upcoming season, as contract negotiations stalled.

"I don't know the misconceptions that were out there but I feel good. I'm ready to go," Cousins said. "I've been feeling good the last several weeks, and I believe we've done a good job communicating between myself and the team. We are all on the same page."

Cousins spoke to the media following the teams first walk through on Thursday on day one of the Redskins 2017 training camp. The sixth year quarterback out of Michigan State fielded questions ranging from his contract situation, driving his famous van, training camp burnout and on the thoughts of his upcoming child due during the season.

Cousins also got a vote of confidence from Head Coach Jay Gruden when asked if the one year contract deal would affect the way quarterback reps would be handled during camp.

"Were focused on Kirk. He's our starter and he's going to get all the starter reps, period," Gruden said. " Colt [McCoy] will take advantage of his reps, I'm sure he will. And Nate [Sudfeld] will get a few sprinkled in there. We're trying to develop Nate also for the future. But, this is Kirk's team right now, and it's our job to get him ready for Philadelphia and really surround him and make him feel good about the people around him."

With the departure of DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, along with the arrival of Terrell Pryor, Cousins will be preparing with a mix of returning veterans and new personnel.

Cousins first meeting with Pryor came at a Starbucks last summer as both were traveling to their camps and met outside of Cleveland.

"I watched him in week 4 against the Browns, I was really impressed with what he was able to do," Cousins said. "He had a great year last year, we just want to build on that and hopefully give him an opportunity to have even more success this season."

Kirk Cousins named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. - The National Football League announced today that Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team's Week 11 win against the Green Bay Packers.

The honor is Cousins’ first of the season and the third of his career, joining selections in Weeks 7 and 10 of the 2015 season. He joins wide receiver Art Monk (five), quarterback Mark Rypien (four) and wide receiver Santana Moss (three) as the only players in team history to earn three career NFC Offensive Player of the Week awards since the honor’s inception in 1984.

Last week, Cousins completed 21-of-30 passes for 375 yards, tied his season-high with three touchdown passes and threw no interceptions in a 42-24 win on Sunday Night Football. He recorded his team-record 17th career 300-yard passing game and finished the game with a season-high 145.8 passer rating.

With Cousins’ selection this week, Redskins players have won 91 NFC Player of the Week awards (including 39 Offensive Player of the Week awards) since the NFL started awarding weekly honors in 1984.
