The Northern Valley Football Wrap Up (Week 4)

BLUEMONT, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles (2-1) used a relentless ground attack and compiled 482 yards rushing with three backs breaking the 100 yard mark to defeat the Handley Judges (0-4) 42-7 on Saturday at the Handley Bowl in the Clarke County Sports Game of the Week.

"It's a big win for us, I am very proud of our guys," Eagles Coach Chris Parker said. "It's a great environment for a game, especially high school, were not used to playing on Saturday so we weren't sure how we we do, but I thought our guys did a great job."

The Eagles wasted no time as they took the opening kickoff and mounted a drive that ended with Hunter Rogers 1 yard touchdown run. Rogers gained 158 yards on 16 carries and scored 3 times on runs of 1, 7 and 27 yards.

Quarterback Jordon Turner rushed for 104 yards on 11 carries and had a 1 yard td run and scored the ensuing 2 point conversion. Turner was 1 of 3 passing for 11 yards.

Eagle running back Matt Dang rushed for 102 yards on 5 carries and scored on a 36 yard TD.

Greg Shippa rushed 3 times for 21 yards and scored on a 2 yard touchdown run.

The Eagles defense recorded three quarterback sacks for -13 yard.

The James Wood Colonels (3-1) knocked the Strasburg Rams (3-1) out of the undefeated ranks with a 26-23 victory at "the Jake".  The Rams made a valiant comeback closing a 26-7 lead to within three points but fell short of the victory.

Wood running back Tyler Bishop rushed for 164 yards on 26 carries and scored on a 1 yard run. Quarterback Dade Carroll was 7 of 9 for 127 yards including a 26 yard touchdown pass to Dillon Manuel. Carroll also rushed for touchdowns of 1 and 12 yards. Manuel had 4 receptions for 83 yards.

Adam Miller was 9 of 16 for 117 yards including a 3 yard touchdown pass to Austin Miller. Adam Miller rushed for 45 yards on 15 carries. Trevon Howard had a 95 yard touchdown return, 6 receptions for 88 yards  including a 2 point conversion. Justin Carr was held to 20 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 7 yard touchdown run.

The Sherando Warriors (4-0) remained unbeaten as they defeated the Eastern View Cyclones (2-2)  42-21 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Warrior running back D.J. Myers rushed for 238 yards on 43 carries and scored 3 touchdowns on runs of 2, 42 and 2 yards. Quarterback Patrick Minteer was 6 of 10 for 117 yards including a 34 yard touchdown pass to Michael Perry.

Eastern View quarterback Josh Stallings was 11 of 25 for 142 yards, with 2 touchdown passes of 30 and 14 yards. Stallings also rushed 19 times for 111 yards including a 1 yard touchdown run.

The Millbrook Pioneers (3-1) defeated the Kettle Run Cougars (0-4) 34-7 in Nokesville. The Pioneers were without quarterback Mark Paxton and P.J. Kier took over at the helm to lead Millbrook to the win.

Running back Nazeeh Johnson scored three touchdowns rushing with runs of 19, 34 and 2. Kier added two touchdowns on runs of 8 and 4 yards. Johnson eclipsed the 100 yard mark and the Pioneers rushed for 350 yards. Kier was 1 of 1 passing for 30 yards.

The Northern Valley Football Wrap Up (Week 3)

BLUEMONT, Va.-  Plenty of action to report on in this weeks version of the Northern Valley Football Wrap Up. We start off with the Clarke County Sports Game of the Week, the "Battle of Route 7".

The Millbrook Pioneers (2-1) made a valiant comeback as they defeated the Clarke County Eagles (1-1) 20-14 at Wilbur M. Feltner Stadium in Berryville.

Pioneer running back P.K. Kier scored three touchdowns for the Pioneers on runs of 10, 17 and 1. Kier had 145 yards on 25 carries.

Pioneer quarterback Mark Paxton was 3 of 3 for 48  yards.

Eagle quarterback Jordon Turner was 13 of 24 for 124 yards, including a 10 yard touchdown pass to Brett McDonald. Turner rushed 14 times for 36 yards.

Hunter Rogers rushed for 94 yards on 18 carries including a 1 yard touchdown run.

The win snapped Clarke's 23 game regular season winning streak. The Eagles last regular season loss came at the hands of Manassas Park when the Cougars defeated the Eagles 40-28 on October 19, 2012. A bid for a third consecutive undefeated regular fell short.

"Our kids aren't used to losing, it's disappointing but I'm proud of how our kids played tonight." Eagles Coach Chris Parker said.

The James Wood Colonels (2-1) put 39 points on the board in the first half cruising to a 52-34 victory over the Warren County Wildcats (1-1).

Colonel running back Tyler Bishop rambled for 311 yards on 19 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. Bishop scored on runs of 31, 5, 3, 91, and 14 yards.

Quarterback Dade Carroll went 8 of 9 for 124 yards and three touchdown passes for the Colonels. Carroll hit Dillon Manuel on passes of 27 and 31 yards and Ryan Bearer for a 3 yard strike.

Wildcat quarterback Robert Rutherford was 12 of 23 for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 69 yard pass to his brother Joseph and a 15 yard touchdown to Cameron Ford. Rutherford also scored on a 7 yard touchdown run.

Joseph Rutherford rushed for 91 yards on 12 carrieds including a 63 yard touchdown run.

The Sherando Warriors (3-0) shutout the Washington WV, Patriots (1-2) 28-0 in convincing fashion.

In three games the Warriors have outscored opponents 84- 21 and have positioned themselves as the team to beat in the Northern Shenandoah Valley with quality wins over Louisa County and Martinsburg, WV.

Warrior senior Dylan Rivers accounted for all four scores, going in twice on runs of 1 and 6 yards and twice on the end of Patrick Minteer touchdown passes of 37 and 95 yards. Rivers ended up with 143 yards receiving on 4 receptions.

Patrick Minteer was 5 of 6 for 178 yards with 2 touchdowns for Sherando, while Warrior running back Cordell Peterson had 133 yards on 23 carries.

Patriot quarterback Chase Maccubin 13 of 33 for 179 yards. Gavin Maccubin led the Patriots in receptions with 8 receptions for 110 yards.

The Sherando defense held the Patriots to minus 33 yards on 18 carries.

The Handley Judges (0-3) started off strong but fell to the Fauquier Falcons (2-1)  in a rare day game played Friday afternoon at the Handley Bowl 39-14. The Judges took a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime but yielded 36 unanswered points in the second half to the Falcons.

Falcon quarterback Merritt Railey rushed for 147 yards and scored twice on runs of 68 and 22. Railey also kicked two field goals of 26 and 37 yards along with 2 point after kicks.

Falcon running back Keion Lewis had 53 yards on 10 carries scoring on runs of 14 and 18.

Handley quarterback Matthew Elliot was 5 of 13 for 57 yards and was picked twice by the Falcons.

Handley running back Quay Pannell rushed for 76 yards on 12 carries including a 2 yard touchdown run.

The Judges got their other score on a turnover as Dolan Delaney scored on a 16 yard fumble recovery.

In the battle for Ram Supremecy The Strasburg Rams (3-0) remained undefeated as they won at home against the visiting Riverside Rams (0-3) 27-6. Riverside hails from Leesburg and is in their first VHSL season.

Strasburg back Justin Carr rushed for 137 yards on 12 carries and scored 3 touchdowns on runs of 1, 7 and 42.
