Eagles Place Well at Region B Track & Field Meet

STAUNTON, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles competed in the VHSL AA Region B Championships on Thursday and came away with 2 individual and one team championship.

The girls finished in 2nd overall behind Fort Defiance, and the boys came in 4th behind, Stuarts Draft, Riverheads and edged out for 3rd by 2 1/2 points to Mountain View.

"We had a few competitors missing for the boys team, but everybody competed hard and we had some good performances." Eagles Head Coach Andre Kidrick said. "Not having anyone competing in the Pole Vault always costs us points right off the bat."

Emmalene Morris was one of three competitors selected for the Girls Meet MVP. Morris accounted for 22.5 points placing 2nd in the 100 Hurdles, and high jump, 5th in the 200 meters, and was the anchor leg of the 4X100 relay team that captured the Championship trophy. The other members of the relay team were Robyn Preston, Alainah McCavish, and Regan Myers with a time of 52.42, edging out Stuart's Draft.

Haley Foltz captured 1st place in the the girls discus with a throw of  102' 11" the only female to break 100'.

"Some people hit it in the Districts, and others placed well in the regionals, we have to step up and have everybody's best performance at JMU this weekend.

Several other Eagles had medal winning performances to help to contribute to the high team scores.

Eagles defeat Mountaineers to advance in Region B Boys Soccer

 BERRYVILLE, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles boys soccer team started their quest for the VHSL 2A  Boys Soccer Championship. The Eagles moved to 20-0 defeating the Madison County Mountaineers 5-0 at Wilbur M. Feltner Stadium. The win moves the Eagles into Friday's championship game against Central.

The Eagles got goals from Chris LeBlanc (2), Charlie Frame, Caleb Neiman, and Leo Morris. Kyler Darlington supported by a stellar defense got the shutout for the Eagles in the net.

Eagles defeat Falcons to move on in Region B Softball

BERRYVILLE, Va.- The Clarke County Eagle softball team relied on a late rally to defeat the Central Falcons 2-1 in a Region B Quarterfinal matchup at Charles O. Grubbs Field. Abby Peace pitched a 4 hit one run victory, that was capped off by a Haley Farmer single that scored Anna Hornbaker from first base.

The Eagles will travel to Page County on Wednesday for semi final action against the Panthers.

Clarke County Eagle slideshow from Salem Civic Center

SALEM, VA-(2/16/13) Photo/Video slideshow of the Clarke County Eagles at the Salem Civic Center in Salem VA on Feb 16, 2013.  Ben Wallace(170) and Ryan Huff(285) won the VHSL A Wrestling championships. Brandon Hutchison(132) placed fifth at the medal stand. Kyle VanSice walked in the Champions Walk of Fame and Coach Jon VanSice's Eagles brought home a 7th place finish with three wrestlers.

Wallace and Huff capture Championships for Clarke County

SALEM, VA-(2/16/13) The Clarke County Eagle wrestling team brought home 2 state championships to Berryville.

Ben Wallace captured the VHSL A 170 pound championship before a standing room only crowd at the Salem Civic Center. Wallace scored a 9-4 decision over Logan Dean of John I. Burton.

"You couldn't ask for anything better." Wallace said, "We could of brought a couple more kids down but we have a young team and there is always next year."

Ryan Huff grabbed the VHSL A 285 pound championship pinning Danny Cook of Castlewood at 2:33. Huff had 3 pins in 4 matches at the tournament.

"My coach told me to just be real aggressive with him and thats my style." Huff said, "I was on my back twice and thought I was going to have to fight him off. He didn't get his hip set and I just rolled him."

The Eagles grabbed seventh place with only three wrestlers competing in Salem. Senior Brandon Hutchison placed fifth in the 132 pound group to help the Eagles gain 67.5 points.

"To come down here and do that with only three guys is amazing." Eagles coach Jon VanSice said, "You look at all the guys around us, all these other teams are bringing six, seven, eight, nine guys and were right there with them."
