BERRYVILLE, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles defeated the Skyline Hawks 27-16 Thursday night at the Felt in VHSL Varsity Football Action. The Eagles got on the board on the first play of the game when Will Booker striped the Skyline return man and Sam Goode picked up the ball and raced to the left cone and with Chris LeBlancs extra point the Eagles led 7-0 with just 17 seconds into the game.
The lead was short lived however as the Hawks stormed right back down the field and quarterback Aidan Vaught raced around the right end for a 38 yard touchdown run. The Hawks faked the extra point and went up 8-7.
Eagles quarterback Matthew Sipe scored on a 30 yard run, breaking tackles along the way. Sipe also hit Kyler Darlington on screen pass over the middle and Darlington took it 51 yards to the house. The Eagles went into the locker room leading 21-8.
After a scoreless third quarter the Eagles got their final score on a Darlington 3 yard touchdown run, the point after was wide left and the Eagles again led comfortably 27-8. However on the ensuing kickoff Vaught fielded the ball at the Hawks goal line, broke through a hole in the middle of the field and went to the right sideling out racing Eagle defenders for the score. The two point conversion was converted by a Vaught run.
The Eagles Wilson Taylor picked off Vaught in the second half to kill a Hawk drive.
