Clarke County Sports salutes Ryan Kerrigan, the Washington Football Team All Time Sack Leader

LANDOVER, Md.- Ryan Kerrigan became the Washington Football Teams All Time Leader in Sacks on September 13, 2020 at FedEx Field. Kerrigan had two sacks of the Philadelphia Eagles Carson Wentz.
Kerrigan tied and then passed longtime Washington Legend Dexter Manley to take over the franchise record, a record that has held for thirty years and will most likely last for years to come.

Kicking Unit Remains a Solid Rock for Washington

Nick Sundberg, the Washington Football teams long snapper from California has been a starter from day one and has been one of the most consistent long snappers in the NFL and also one of the most generous players in the league when it comes to donating his time and effort to multiple charitable foundations and was last years representative from Washington for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
Match that up with the fact Sundberg has been working punter Tress Way for 7 seasons and kicker Dustin Hopkins for 6 seasons, the 24 years of NFL experience together only gets better with time.

Hopkins out of Florida State joined the Redskins in 2015 after being selected by the Buffalo Bills. Hopkins has been a steady force in both scoring and kick offs.
Tress Way was drafted by Washington in 2014 and has played every game (96) since joining the team and was a Pro bowl selection for Washington last year.

Washington Football Team releases Adrian Peterson
ASHBURN, Va.- The Washington Football Team announced this morning that they were releasing future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson.
"First off made this decision today because Adrian deserves his day." Head Coach Ron Rivera said, "This is a first ballot Hall of Famer, you know for him to be treated any other way I was gonna struggle with that. Really late yesterday we came to the conclusion that this was the direction we were gonna head.This is not about what he [Peterson] hasn't done or anything like that, it's about what this group of backs has shown us especially in the way this offense is headed."

Peterson has made no a qualms about wanting to play another 5 seasons but was very humble in his response to the team after being told the news. He obviously did not fit into Rivera's rebuilding plan and was released in time that he could be signed with another team.
News of the move hit the internet around 7:15 this morning when the story was first broke by the NFL Network and ESPN. Facebook, twitter and other social media platforms lit up with traffic concerning Peterson.

ODAC Updates Return to Athletic Competition Plans
FOREST, Va. --- After extensive deliberations, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Presidents Council voted to postpone conference competition and championships for fall and winter sports through the end of the 2020 calendar year (December 31). The ODAC remains focused on providing meaningful competition for all student-athletes in 2020-21, which includes an intention to sponsor conference competition for fall and winter sports in the spring semester.
“The ODAC is one of the nation’s premiere Division III athletic conferences precisely because of our long-standing commitment to the student-athlete experience at all of our institutions,” expressed Dr. David Bushman, President at Bridgewater College and chair of the ODAC Presidents Council. “In light of the broader public health concerns surrounding athletic competitions, the well-being of our campuses and everyone involved in athletic competition made this decision the right one. We have great athletic department leadership across the conference and a superb conference staff and we are all committed to hosting meaningful competition as soon as it is safe to do so.”
To help the ODAC and its member schools provide their student-athletes with the most complete athletic experience possible, NCAA Division III is considering a blanket waiver that would provide unprecedented scheduling flexibility. The scheduling change would supply all conference sports with more time for individual and team skill instruction, strength and conditioning, leadership development, and other athletically-related activities during the academic year as health and safety conditions allow.

Young returning home to ply his trade
BLUEMONT, Va.- The Washington Redskins first round draft pick will not need to travel to a new city to continue his football career. Chase Young, the best defensive player in the country grew up only miles away from FedEx Field in Upper Marlboro, MD and played high school ball at DeMatha.
He is expected to make an immediate impact on the defense just as another local Jonathan Allen in 2017, who grew up in the shadows of Redskins Park, another first round defensive pick that came in and made an immediate impact.

BERRYVILLE, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles Football Program held their 2019 Awards Banquet on Sunday at the High School in Berryville.
Eagles Head Coach Chris Parker led the program with opening statements and thank you's to the boosters, coaches, training staff and more...
Following the opening comments Parker and Coach Jon Novick introduced the players starting with the Freshmen and continuing through the seniors.
The Winchester Star All Area Awards, All Bull Run District, and All Region 2 B teams were then announced.
Each coached recognized a player in the Team Awards and finally Danny Lyman and Colby Childs were presented Game Balls that will appear in the CCHS Trophy case for Receiving and passing records.
The Entire Ceremony can be viewed below, as well as a photo screen show with the individual awards. Thanks To Jon Novick, Doug Aylestock, and Casey Childs in the assistance with this program.

Volkan Ergen led all scorers with 15 points. Colby Childs added 9 for the Eagles followed by Deonte Trammel with 8, and Ellis Nei and Jacob Weddle each added 4.
The Panthers were led by Chase Combs and Trey Knight with 10 each, Logan Rangle added 7, followed by Trevor Williams 5, Freddy Stidham 4, Ricky Campbell 3, and Dylan Hensley and W. Hensley each scored 2.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins today announced Ron Rivera as the team’s new head coach.

“After several meetings with Coach Rivera, it was clear he is the right person to bring winning football back to Washington D.C.,” said Dan Snyder, Washington Redskins Owner. “He is widely respected around the league as a man of great integrity and has proven to be one of the finest coaches in the country.”
With more than 20 years of coaching experience, Rivera is a passionate and skilled leader who has earned the respect of his players, coaching staff and the community. He most recently served as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers for nine seasons, where he led the team to three straight divisional titles and an appearance in Super Bowl 50. Rivera was also recognized twice as the NFL Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, in 2013 and in 2015.
“While I love the storied history of the franchise, I am focused on the future and excited for the opportunity to win football games with this talented young team,” said Rivera. “After meeting Dan Snyder, it was clear we are aligned in our passion for the game and he supports my vision to turn the team around. I look forward to surrounding myself with great people and getting to work.”
