Chris Parker gets 100th victory

Eagles Head Coach Chris Parker   Moe Murphy / CCS
BERRYVILLE, Va.-  Clarke County Eagle Head Football Coach Chris Parker coached his team to their 100th win in a 27-6 victory over Central at Wilbur M. Feltner Stadium on Friday, Sept. 25.

Parker in his 15th season as the Eagles head coach and his 33rd year in the program gave credit to his various players and coaches that helped to make the milestone possible.

Parker's first win came in 2001 on a Saturday afternoon at Randolph-Macon Academy.

"I remember vividly that first win," Parker said. "I was trying to get the program back and it's been a long haul, but this is a team milestone, I'm always about the team."

Parker was presented a game ball after the game by Eagles Athletic Director and assistant coach Casey Childs and the game was dedicated to Parker's late father Roger who passed away in 2012.

Coach Chris Parker speaks about his 100th Coaching victory in the video below.

Eagles bounce back big with win over Handley

Matt Dang scores on a 36 yd td run       James Murphy / CCS
WINCHESTER, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles (2-1) used a relentless ground attack and compiled 482 yards rushing with three backs breaking the 100 yard mark to defeat the Handley Judges (0-4) 42-7 on Saturday at the Handley Bowl in the Clarke County Sports Game of the Week.

"It's a big win for us, I am very proud of our guys," Eagles Coach Chris Parker said. "It's a great environment for a game, especially high school, were not used to playing on Saturday so we weren't sure how we we do, but I thought our guys did a great job."

The Eagles wasted no time as they took the opening kickoff and mounted a drive that ended with Hunter Rogers 1 yard touchdown run. Rogers gained 158 yards on 16 carries and scored 3 times on runs of 1, 7 and 27 yards.

"I think it was a great effort from all of us," Rogers said. "Coming off the loss to Millbrook we had to step it up a bit and we all did that."

Handley answered on their next drive and tied the game as Sergio Martines went in from one yard out and it appeared a battle was in the making, however the Clarke defense paced by Sam White, Julius Grant and Bryan Wallace stepped up after the opening drive and shut down the Judges for the remainder of the game.

"We might have lost last week but we knew we had to prepare and get better for this week and start the win streak up again," Grant said. "We studied them [Handley] on film and made the necessary adjustments we needed to make."

Q's Huddle Buzz Vol. 4 No. 3

WINCHESTER, Va. – Junior Qlyl Middelijn is in his second year of blogging about the football team. This week, Q takes us through a typical week of practice.

With our win last Saturday at Ferrum, SU football has made history. We are 2-0 for the first time in program history. However, the coaches can't stress enough that we should not take any team lightly and go into every single game with a 0-0 mindset.

So that is what we do. We look at every game like we haven't won anything yet. Last contest against Ferrum was a tough one but the Hornets found a formula for success throughout the game. Jalen Brisco really stepped up with a couple touchdowns under his belt and racked up 134 yards receiving on the day. His final touchdown secured the victory.

Last year we were known as a rushing offense under the leadership of Cedrick Delaney, but this year coach Stan Hodgin has done an exceptional job with balancing the offense out so that the Hornets can be a threat in the air and in the ground. That air-raid threat is mainly due to the strong arm of Hayden Bauserman. This kid has really been working himself and is proving that he can roll with the big dogs.

This week was taken like any given week when preparing for a tough opponent. Practice kicked off with Teaching Tuesday, where we learn about our opponent's tactics, strategies, and little specific details they show. Next we have Working Wednesday, the day that we really get after it. We've learned their film and have done all of our research now its time to show what we learned about our opponent on our toughest day of practice.

Last we have Perfect Thursday. On this day all mental mistakes should be non-existent. Our minds are focused on one thing and one thing only: doing your job. If every player on this team does their job, there is no way that we will lose.

Support your Hornets by watching the live game feed on Saturday as we travel down to N.C. Wesleyan and return home with another W in our record column. Go Hornets!!!

The Northern Valley Football Wrap Up (Week 3)

P.K. Kier 145 yards and 3 td's.    James Murphy
BLUEMONT, Va.-  Plenty of action to report on in this weeks version of the Northern Valley Football Wrap Up. We start off with the Clarke County Sports Game of the Week, the "Battle of Route 7".

The Millbrook Pioneers (2-1) made a valiant comeback as they defeated the Clarke County Eagles (1-1) 20-14 at Wilbur M. Feltner Stadium in Berryville.

Pioneer running back P.K. Kier scored three touchdowns for the Pioneers on runs of 10, 17 and 1. Kier had 145 yards on 25 carries.

Pioneer quarterback Mark Paxton was 3 of 3 for 48  yards.

Eagle quarterback Jordon Turner was 13 of 24 for 124 yards, including a 10 yard touchdown pass to Brett McDonald. Turner rushed 14 times for 36 yards.

Hunter Rogers rushed for 94 yards on 18 carries including a 1 yard touchdown run.

The win snapped Clarke's 23 game regular season winning streak. The Eagles last regular season loss came at the hands of Manassas Park when the Cougars defeated the Eagles 40-28 on October 19, 2012. A bid for a third consecutive undefeated regular fell short.

"Our kids aren't used to losing, it's disappointing but I'm proud of how our kids played tonight." Eagles Coach Chris Parker said.

The James Wood Colonels (2-1) put 39 points on the board in the first half cruising to a 52-34 victory over the Warren County Wildcats (1-1).

Colonel running back Tyler Bishop rambled for 311 yards on 19 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. Bishop scored on runs of 31, 5, 3, 91, and 14 yards.

Quarterback Dade Carroll went 8 of 9 for 124 yards and three touchdown passes for the Colonels. Carroll hit Dillon Manuel on passes of 27 and 31 yards and Ryan Bearer for a 3 yard strike.

Wildcat quarterback Robert Rutherford was 12 of 23 for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 69 yard pass to his brother Joseph and a 15 yard touchdown to Cameron Ford. Rutherford also scored on a 7 yard touchdown run.

Joseph Rutherford rushed for 91 yards on 12 carrieds including a 63 yard touchdown run.

The Sherando Warriors (3-0) shutout the Washington WV, Patriots (1-2) 28-0 in convincing fashion.

In three games the Warriors have outscored opponents 84- 21 and have positioned themselves as the team to beat in the Northern Shenandoah Valley with quality wins over Louisa County and Martinsburg, WV.

Warrior senior Dylan Rivers accounted for all four scores, going in twice on runs of 1 and 6 yards and twice on the end of Patrick Minteer touchdown passes of 37 and 95 yards. Rivers ended up with 143 yards receiving on 4 receptions.

Patrick Minteer was 5 of 6 for 178 yards with 2 touchdowns for Sherando, while Warrior running back Cordell Peterson had 133 yards on 23 carries.

Patriot quarterback Chase Maccubin 13 of 33 for 179 yards. Gavin Maccubin led the Patriots in receptions with 8 receptions for 110 yards.

The Sherando defense held the Patriots to minus 33 yards on 18 carries.

The Handley Judges (0-3) started off strong but fell to the Fauquier Falcons (2-1)  in a rare day game played Friday afternoon at the Handley Bowl 39-14. The Judges took a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime but yielded 36 unanswered points in the second half to the Falcons.

Falcon quarterback Merritt Railey rushed for 147 yards and scored twice on runs of 68 and 22. Railey also kicked two field goals of 26 and 37 yards along with 2 point after kicks.

Falcon running back Keion Lewis had 53 yards on 10 carries scoring on runs of 14 and 18.

Handley quarterback Matthew Elliot was 5 of 13 for 57 yards and was picked twice by the Falcons.

Handley running back Quay Pannell rushed for 76 yards on 12 carries including a 2 yard touchdown run.

The Judges got their other score on a turnover as Dolan Delaney scored on a 16 yard fumble recovery.

In the battle for Ram Supremecy The Strasburg Rams (3-0) remained undefeated as they won at home against the visiting Riverside Rams (0-3) 27-6. Riverside hails from Leesburg and is in their first VHSL season.

Strasburg back Justin Carr rushed for 137 yards on 12 carries and scored 3 touchdowns on runs of 1, 7 and 42.
