ASHBURN, Va.- The Clarke County Eagles traveled to Ashburn twice before they could play the game. Lightning delays caused the postponement of the Thursday night opener. The Eagles returned on Friday and took care of business with a convincing 55-9 victory over the Rock Ridge Phoenix.
The 24 hour delay did not seem to hamper the Eagles in any fashion.
"It was hard for all of us to come and sit here for three hours."Eagles Running back Wyatt Palmer said. "It was hot, exhausting, none of us wanted to do it, but we stayed focus and came locked in."
The Eagles scored on their first drive when Wilson Taylor went around the left end and raced untouched for the opening drive's score.
Palmer scored the next three times on runs of 25, 76, and 46 and ended up with 165 yards.

Rock Ridge got their lone touchdown near the end of the first quarter, after the Eagles had already put the game out of reach.
Tanner Sipe passed for 78 yards on 3 of 5 and 1 touchdown. A 53 yard strike to Lincoln Booker. Sipe also rushed for a score.
The Eagles also got scores from Will Witta and Brayden Roper. Witta from one yard and Roper took a run 67 yards to the house.
Carson Chinn had an interception and continues to lead the Eagles in tackles. Joseph Stem, and Brandon O'Bannion all had strong games, as did the entire team.
Drake Barton was 7 of 8 on extra points.
The Eagles will travel to King William on Friday to face the King William Cavaliers. The Eagles defeated the Cav's last year at the felt 34-7, but this years game is expected to be much closer.
"We are excited about the opportunity,"Head Coach Casey Childs said. "It's the kind of game you want to play in. It's two of the best 2A programs in the state. These are the kind of games you sign up to play in."
