State championship streak on the line Saturday by Michael "Moe" Murphy

When the Briar Woods Falcons and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs take the field Dec. 8 at their respective state championship game sites, both teams will look to continue an impressive streak of a Loudoun school, more specifically an Ashburn school, winning a state football title each of the last five years.

Stone Bridge started the run with its 2007 state championship. Broad Run followed with back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009, and Briar Woods extended the streak with consecutive state crowns in 2010 and 2011.

Despite the recent success, Loudoun has not fielded two state football champions in the same season. That could change this year as Stone Bridge and Briar Woods both take undefeated records into the final week of the 2012 season.
