FRONT ROYAL, (12/22/12)- The Loudoun County Raiders captured second place in the sixteen team Applachian Duals losing in the Championship round to the Franklin County Eagles 56-12. The Raiders made it to the finals by defeating Centreville 48-21, and Skyline 47-21.
Franklin County went undefeated on the day with wins over Kettle Run 58-9, and Woodgrove 52-18 to advance to the Finals.
The Woodgrove Wolverines finished in fourth place losing to the host Skyline Hawks 45-26. Woodgrove went 2-2 on the day defeating Lake Braddock 45-33, and Centreville 45-30. The Wolverines also lost the tourament champions, Franklin County 52-18.
Skyline defeated Mountain View 41-28, Lake Braddock 37-33, and Woodgrove 45-26 and lost one match to Loudoun County 47-21.

LEESBURG, (12/15/12)- The Heritage Pride wrestling team participated in the Duals for the Warriors at Loudoun County High School. The tournament helped raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
LEESBURG, (12/15/12) The George Mason Mustangs competed in the Duals for the Warriors at Loudoun County High School. The Mustangs, out of the Bull Run District travled from Falls Church to help raise funds for the Wounded Warriors Project.
Inwood, WV— (12/21/12)After a storied career that stretched over five decades, the all-time winningest high-school football coach in West Virginia history is leaving the sideline.
Denny Price, head coach at Musselman High School since 1973, announced his retirement Thursday at a press conference/reception in the school’s library.
“As a young coach, winning is what it’s all about,” said Price, 63. “But as you grow older, that changes to watching kids develop. I’m going to miss it, but that time has come for me.”
Over Price’s four decades at the Applemen helm, his teams amassed 276 victories and won three state championships — in 1974 on the Single-A level and in 1982 and 1995 in AA competition.
That ’95 squad, with Price’s son Matt as quarterback, claimed the state title as the 16th seed, the last team to qualify for playoff competition.
This past fall, Price’s final Applemen edition compiled an 8-4 record, losing to eventual state champion Martinsburg in the AAA quarterfinals.
Waxing reminiscent about his chosen profession, Price said, “I’ve had a great staff. Relationships are what it’s about — working with people, and not just punching a time clock.
“I’ve heard other coaches say this, and I know I’m speaking for us all, but we’re so lucky to get up in the morning and not worry at all about going to work . . . It’s all about doing something every day of your adult life that makes you happy.”

With the Dulles District season looming Dec. 19, Briar Woods, Tuscarora, Heritage and host Loudoun County competed in their final tune up at the Duals for the Warriors Dec. 15 in Leesburg.
The 10-team tournament, sponsored by Loudoun County High School and the Ranger Wrestling Club, benefited the Wounded Warrior Project.
Loudoun County coach Joel Caruso, also the tournament director, presented U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Anthony Rico with a plaque prior to the start of the tournament. Caruso served with Rico, a Purple Heart recipient who was wounded in Afghanistan. The Wounded Warrior Project had a display in the foyer and the Raiders raised more than $900 for the cause in sales of tournament T-shirts.

LANDOVER, MD-(12-9-12)- The Washington Redskins extended their winning streak to four games with a thrilling 31-28 overtime victory against the Baltimore Ravens Dec. 8 in front of a paid attendance of 81,178 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
The Redskins (7-6) are tied with the Dallas Cowboys for second place in the NFC East, one game behind the New York Giants. The Ravens fell to 9-4 on the season.

LEESBURG, -(12/15/12)The Briar Woods Falcon wrestling team competed in the Duals for the Warriors held at Loudoun County High School. The Falcons placed fourth with a record of 4-1.
Briar Woods Michael Hulcher ((126) went 5-0 with 4 pins in less than a minute. The wins improved his record for the season to 9-0. Hulcher is ranked 1 in the Region and 2 in the State.
Mick Zahora (132) went 5-0 for the day and improved to 7-1 this season.
LEESBURG, -(12/15/12) The Tuscarora Husky wrestling team competed in the Duals for the Warriors to support the Wounded Warrior Project in Leesburg at Loudoun County High School.
Tuscarora placed fifth in the ten team tournament going 3-2. Tuscarora had a strong showing
with three wrestlers going undefeated on the day. Alex McCord improved to 15-1
wrestling at 120 and was selected a tournament MVP. Jack Lord improved to 11-5
at 132, and Sam Brazer went 3-0 for the day improving to 10-2 at 113 pounds.
LEESBURG, -(12/15/12) The Clarke County Eagle wrestling team attended the Duals for the Warriors held at Loudoun County High School in Leesburg on Dec. 15. The Eagles finished tied for 6th going 2-3 on the Day.
The Eagles wrestled tough all day wrestling four out of the top five teams and winning their last two matches of the day.

LEESBURG, -(12/15/12) The Loudoun County Raiders placed third in the 2012 Duals for the Warriors held at the Raiders home mat in Leesburg. Brian Monroy (120), Matt Sun (126), Logan Smith (138), Hunter Day (160), and Alex Reader (182) all went undefeated for the Raiders. Matt Sun was selected one of five tournament MVP's.
“I just found my rhythm today, it
was great.” Sun said, “I didn’t have to think about my moves, they were just
like habits. I needed to get points for my team and that motivated me to go for
pins to get the bonus points. The match against Paul VI was my toughest match.
Looking back on it I wished I could have pinned the kid to get the extra points
for my team.”
The Raiders narrowly missed the championship round coming up just 4 points short of knocking off tournament champion Warren County.

LANDOVER, MD- (12/9/12) The Washington Redskins battled the elements, injuries, and a tough Baltimore Raven squad and came out with a thrilling 31-28 overtime victory in front of 81,178 screaming fans. Kai Forbath's 34 yard field goal at 11:47 in overtime was the deciding factor.
“It was huge. Huge win for our team."Forbath said, " I was telling [punter]
Sav [Rocca] that a lot of NFL games come down to field goals and we hadn’t had
one, so I kind of had a feeling today was going to and it did. Fortunately, we
came out on the right side of it.”
The Redskins had to come from behind without their field general Robert Griffin III. Griffin was injured in the fourth quarter, left the game, returned and then left for the remainder of the game with a knee injury.
“I was trying to make
a play. I got outside and turned inside, and once I turned inside, I said ‘Oh
lord, here we go,’ and got down."Griffin said, "I protected myself in
that regard. It was just a freak play. My leg got hit while I was going down
and after I was already down, my leg got hit again. It was a pretty painful
experience, but I will be alright.”
Kirk Cousins entered the game and was able to complete the game tieing drive finished off by a two point quarterback draw to knot the score at 28-28 with 29 seconds to go in the game.
“The touchdown was an off-schedule play, I tried
to start my read and did not feel comfortable in the pocket and waiting on it."Cousins said, "So I thought ‘I am going to make something
happen and try to do my best ‘RGIII,’ if you will. Pierre ended up coming off
his route and breaking away, breaking open, wide open, all I
had to do was put it in his arms.”

Baltimore appeared to have the game put away when Ray Rice scored on a 7 yard run with 4:47 to go in the game to put the Ravens up by eight.
“Obviously, I’m very proud of our team on the way we
kept fighting." Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said, "We had some outs in the game, but with the way we finished it,
the way the guys stepped up and made some plays at the end of the game was very
impressive. I’m really proud of the way the guys played.”
After the Redskins appeared to lose a fumble on the ensuing kickoff the call was overturned and the ball was maintained by Washington. The drive started with Robert Griffin III and ended with Kirk Cousins at the helm.
“It was a hard, tough and disappointing loss.
Congratulations to the Redskins for getting it done the way they did at the end
of the game."Raven Coach John Harbaugh said, "They deserved to win because of the way they
played at the end of the game, but we are not going to be disheartened."

The Washington Redskins held the New York Giants to three second-half points on their way to a 17-16 victory over the defending Super Bowl champions Dec. 3 in front of an announced crowd of 80,246 spectators at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
The Redskins extended their winning streak to three games
and evened their record at 6-6. The Giants - who won the first meeting between the NFC East rivals, 27-23 on Oct. 21 - slipped to 7-5.
Washington scored the go-ahead points early in the fourth quarter. Robert Griffin III connected with Pierre Garcon on an 8-yard touchdown pass and Kai Forbath converted the ensuing extra point to give the Redskins a 17-16 lead they would not relinquish.
Garcon finished with eight receptions for 106 yards. Alfred Morris churned out 124 yards on 22 carries. Griffin completed 13 of 21 passing attempts for 163 yards and also rushed for 72 yards.
London Fletcher led the Redskins defensively with 12 combined tackles. Madieu Williams added seven stops. Fletcher extended his consecutive games played streak to 236, tied for the longest active streak in the NFL.
Washington will host the Baltimore Ravens at FedEx Field on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to support the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation “Touchdown for Tots” toy drive. When the Briar Woods Falcons and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs take the field Dec. 8 at their respective state championship game sites, both teams will look to continue an impressive streak of a Loudoun school, more specifically an Ashburn school, winning a state football title each of the last five years.
Stone Bridge started the run with its 2007 state championship. Broad Run followed with back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009, and Briar Woods extended the streak with consecutive state crowns in 2010 and 2011.
Despite the recent success, Loudoun has not fielded two state football champions in the same season. That could change this year as Stone Bridge and Briar Woods both take undefeated records into the final week of the 2012 season.

270 passes and threw 14 interceptions. A first team All-Northwestern District
selection, Neff’s yardage and touchdowns were the area’s highest since 2007
(Sherando’s Ross Metheny, 2,207 yards, 24 TDs).
Taylor Loudan — Sherando — Senior — RB
Loudan led the area in rushing yards (1,592) and led his team with 10 rushing
TDs and a 7.1 average on 223 attempts. He also led his team in receptions (16,
for 214 yards and 2 TDs) and completed 19 of 39 passes for 246 yards and a TD.
Loudan was the Northwestern District Offensive Player of the Year.
Justin Anderson — Millbrook — Senior — RB
Anderson led his team in rushing yards (1,222) and led his team with 13
rushing TDs and a 7.1 average on 173 attempts. He also had 16 catches for 142
yards. Anderson was a first team All-Northwestern District selection.
Davey Hardesty — Clarke County — Senior — RB
Hardesty led his team in rushing yards (1,454, on 183 carries) and led the
area in rushing TDs (25), total TDs (30), points (186) and yards per carry
(7.9). He also led his team in receptions (28), receiving yards (454) and
receiving TDs (four). Hardesty was a second team All-Region B selection and was
first team All-Bull Run District.
T.J. Bruce — Millbrook — Senior — WR
Bruce led the area in receiving yards (876) and receiving TDs (12) and led
his team with 44 catches. A first team All-Northwestern District selection,
Bruce’s yardage and TDs were the area’s highest since 2000 (Handley’s Adam
Dutton, 1,111 yards, 14 TDs).

Washington led the area in receptions (45) and led his team with 630
receiving yards and seven touchdown catches. Washington was a first team
All-Northwestern District selection.

BRAMBLETON, (12-1-12) The Briar Woods Falcons punched their third consecutive ticket to Liberty University to play in the VHSL Region II Championship. The Falcons defeated the Courtland Cougars 45-14 at home to extend their current winning streak to 28 games.
Senior running back Cory Colder shouldered the load, (pardon the pun) rushing for four touchdowns and gaining over 180 yards with an injured shoulder that has hampered him for several weeks.
“My line has done amazing over the past few years and have added to my successes.” Colder said, “When you have a great offensive line that’s the centerpiece for success. They’ve done a great job over the past couple of years.”
Courtland played the Falcons tough in the first half and went to the locker room trailing 17-9 at the half. The Falcons were able to blow the game open with four consecutive scoresin the third and fourth quarters before removing the starters.
“As a team the first half we kind of tried to force things and then we focused on what we could control. “Falcon quarterback Trace McSorley said, “The second half showed we can pull away from teams if we just do what we have to do.”
Junior quarterback Trace McSorley passed for a touchdown to Cam Serigne and raced 80 yards up the left sideline resembling RG3 for another score. The third year starter has compiled a record of 41-3.
When asked about the run McSorley said, “It felt good; I had a couple runs that I had got caught on earlier in the year. It felt good to finally break one and get all the way to the end zone.”
The win over Courtland sends the Falcons to the championship game this Saturday at Liberty University against Heritage-Lynchburg winners over L.C. Bird. The two time defending champions want to complete the perfect season and once again bring the Gold back to Ashburn.
It’s bittersweet, I can’t believe we are at the end of the season.”Colder said. “We’ve reached our goal, we are there. We just have to win it.”.........

BRAMBLETON, - (12-1-12) Briar Woods Falcons QB/DB Trace McSorley speaks with Moe Murphy from Clarke County Sports after the Falcons defeat the Courtland Cougars 45-15 in the VHSL Region II Div 4 semi finals at BWHS.
McSorley the 6'1 175 JR is a 3 year starter and is currently riding a 28 game winning streak and has a career record of 41-3. McSorley has two VHSL State Championship rings and is going for a third try next Saturday against Heritage-Lynchburg.
Boston College has shown interest in McSorley as well as many other NCAA schools during the fall.
